Q&A with the director after the screening.
Dorothee Müller, a young Hamburg reporter, tires of her lover, Heinz. She decides to check whether romantic love is an exclusively feminine need. When she fails to find sufficient answers she travels to San Francisco, where she continues her research by interviewing three extraordinary women: impertinent Dominique mocks Dorothee’s German work ethic and then offers to help her in her study; Suzi, a mistress of sexual delights, owns a collection of incredible dildos; while the third woman, attractive Ramona, performs at a lesbian bar as a drag king. This journey will teach Dorothee a thing or two about her own sexuality.
Virgin Machine was shown at this year’s Berlin International Film Festival as part of the lifetime achievement tribute paid to Monika Treut.
